Cassava Technologies, an African heritage technology company, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Accenture to accelerate sovereign AI cloud adoption across the African continent. The partnership will initially focus on South Africa, then expand to Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria. Using Cassava’s secure data center facilities, high-speed fiber broadband network, and GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) infrastructure accelerated with NVIDIA technology, the aim is to allow businesses to process AI workloads and data within national borders, respecting local laws and data sovereignty. This localized approach includes embedding regional languages, cultural contexts, and industry-specific use cases (financial services, agriculture, healthcare, mining, telecommunications) to ensure the solutions are relevant and compliant. Emphasis is being placed on scalability, security, compliance, as well as energy efficiency. This development is seen as critical in reducing dependency on foreign cloud regions and providers, strengthening local digital infrastructure, and enabling more organizations in Africa to participate in the AI era on their own terms.
